Deception

The devil is the father of all deception: “There is no truth in him [the devil]. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of lies” (John 8:44).

When Adam and Eve accepted the devil’s deception, it was the moment that all the troubles of the whole world began. Our sinful nature often sides with the devil’s deception.

I eagerly accept Jesus because only He can free me from deception’s snares (John 8:32).

Satan is the source of deception

Revelation 12:9

The great dragon was thrown down, the old serpent, he who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world. He was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

The devil is the father of lies

John 8:44

You are of your father, the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn’t stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of lies.

The serpent, the devil, deceived Eve with a lie

Genesis 3:4-5

The serpent said to the woman, “You won’t really die, for God knows that in the day you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Paul warned the devil might deceive Christians as he did Eve

2 Corinthians 11:3

But I am afraid that somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve in his craftiness, so your minds might be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

The only way to defeat the deceiver is to find my freedom in Christ’s truth

John 8:32; 14:6

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

I tell the truth for God detests liars

Proverbs 12:22

Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, but those who do the truth are his delight.

Because I love God, I will never tell a lie

Psalm 24:3-5

Who may ascend to the LORD’s hill? Who may stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood, and has not sworn deceitfully. He shall receive a blessing from the LORD, righteousness from the God of his salvation.

My heart, if not in Christ, is full of deceit

Mark 7:20-22

He said, “That which proceeds out of the man, that defiles the man. For from within, out of the hearts of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts, covetings, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness.”

I do not tell lies about my neighbor

Proverbs 24:28

Don’t be a witness against your neighbor without cause. Don’t deceive with your lips.

The human heart is the most deceitful of all

Jeremiah 17:9

The heart is deceitful above all things and it is exceedingly corrupt. Who can know it?

Slander has no place in a Christian’s life

Ephesians 4:31-32

Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

As a born again believer, I no longer tell lies

Colossians 3:9

Don’t lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his doings.
